2-2-1 House
After purchasing the unit above them, the owners of this garden level South End townhouse needed a way to seamlessly join the two floors. Originally both units were cramped, had little natural light, and had not been renovated since the 80’s. Our approach was to create a vertical circulation shaft that would connect the floors, while simultaneously creating a dividing zone to keep the programmatic elements situated along the front and back walls as a strategy to maximize natural light where it counts the most. The oak and glass staircase sits as a standalone design element, providing a nice contrast to the light gray colored walls and the white cabinets and countertops. The final product is a hip and modern space perfect for a young modern family.
