Lion House

By the time firefighters were able to tame this massive six alarm fire in Charlestown, Lion House and its adjacent buildings suffered extensive damage. After determining the brick portion of the building still maintained its structural integrity, Studio DRAW designed a new five story wood construction addition to the rear of the building. The site conditions were particularly challenging due to the elevation change from front to back, with the driveway level being approximately 20’ below the ground floor elevation of the house. This gave us an opportunity to design a green roof over the garage, allowing the tenants to have a place to garden and enjoy the outdoors in a densely packed neighborhood. Studio DRAW also handled the interior design for all four of the apartments. The result was an upgraded building with four unique condominiums meticulously designed to cater to each of the existing tenants’ aesthetic preferences.
